The Calgary Reptile Expo emphasized snakes as the main theme in honour of 2013 being the year of the snake in the Chinese calendar.
Kyle Kirzinger, one of 40 vendors and experts from the reptile community at the expo, answered questions and educated the public on the variety of snakes, lizards and tarantulas that were on display.
Although there were young animals at the expo, there were also many fully grown animals on site - like the larger chameleon pictured here - to help educate the public on the size of the animals they are committing to before purchasing.
Dr. Eva Hadzima (left) encouraged children to read a sign with information about tortoises to support learning about the animals before they were allowed to pet it.
Experts allow visitors to get an up-close look at animals at the expo, such as this tarantula, while also learning about proper handling of the creatures.
