Calgary’s demonstration took place in front of City Hall, where hundreds of people gathered to show their support.
One of the volunteer organizers, Lauren Mangion, says social media was a big factor in aiding the turnout. Mangion believes that it’s “act now, not later,” and that “everyone needs to be all hands on deck.”
The day, which began with a strike, featured different musicians and speakers throughout, and ended with a parade through the downtown core.
“I’m losing my voice a little bit from chanting, but I hope to stay and support the cause,” said Olga Efimova, one of many who came out to City Hall.
Calgary Journal reporter Chloe MacEachern caught up with Efimova to find out more about what brought her to the strike.
