According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, in any given year, one in five people in Canada will personally experience a mental health issue or illness. Alberta, which has the second highest suicide rates in the country after Quebec, is dealing with long wait times for psychiatric services.

People think friendship is easy and something everyone figures out by elementary school. Unfortunately, this isn't always the case. Many people struggle with unhealthy friendships well into adulthood. The Canadian Mental Health Association runs the Art of Friendship, a free course for Calgarians to learn skills for developing healthy friendships.

Travelling to a foreign country to take part in an educational program presents many challenges affecting a student’s mental health. International students encounter financial, linguistic, academic and interpersonal problems while studying abroad, andor many students, leaving home and dealing with wide cultural gaps away from loved ones is very demanding.

Most of us have felt awkward or embarrassed at some point in our lives — the flushed cheeks, the rapid heart palpitations, the desire to bolt out the door.
