A recent study done in the United States suggested that among other things, the percentage of women alone who owned e-readers shot up from six to 21 per cent in the past year, with most of that growth taking place during the recent holiday season.

For devices that have been on the market since 2007, that doubling of popularity over the holidays suggests not only were these products hot gifts, but that the digital shift is growing steadily.

But while e-readers are gaining popularity, there are some who still prefer an actual book
