Woman dead after Montgomery fire

Victim's identity yet to be confirmed, says fire department

thumb Calgary_fireA woman in her late '40s died in a duplex fire in Bowness late Thursday night.

The Calgary Journal was on the scene and obtained photos of emergency crews there.

Calgary Fire Department spokeswoman Carol Henke said an autopsy was being performed Friday to determine cause of death.

The woman's identity remains unknown, according to Henke.

According to a news release distributed by the City of Calgary, the woman was initially found unconscious in the duplex basement and turned over to emergency medical personnel.

The news release also said that the house was engulfed with "thick black smoke" when fire crews arrived.

By the time the Calgary Journal got to the scene, Bowness Road was crammed with Calgary police and fire fighters.

The fire happened in the 4300 block of Bowness Road N.W. at around 11 p.m.
